Swiss winter wonderland

Photo: Pinterest

The capital of Switzerland, Bern is wrapped in a blanket of snow. It is so pittoresk that it reminds me of model train cities, doesn't it? I enjoy the moments early in the morning when it has snowed and the usually noises of the city are muffled, like from another world.

Converted Orangerie

The conversion of an old Orangerie in Geneva, Switzerland inspired me today. With a building like this one you can go either way and the owners decided to boldly add a very modern addition. They furnished their home with design classics in bold colours whilst keeping the walls and floors neutral which really makes the colours pop. Isn't the sun-filled dining room great?

Monastry in Switzerland

Photo: Pinterest

The Monastery Madonna del Sasso is located in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland, arguebly one of the most beautiful places on earth. It combines the best of two worlds - Italian laid backness with Swiss hospitality and organisationial skills - making it a perfect place for your vacation.

Swiss goodies

It is time for a little desktop travelling this fine evening. My destination is the largest city in Switzerland. The Widder Hotel in Zuerich is made up of nine historical former residences, many dating back to the Middle Ages.  By intermingling single buildings via staircases, porticos and inner courtyards a very atypic architecture has been created.

Le gare-maison

I like the idea of using a building for several different purposes during its lifespan, so this transformed train station appealed to me instantly. The owners managed to keep a balance in turning it into a cosy family home and keeping some of the original elements of the former station.

Would you like to live in a former station or any other converted building? Remember this post?

Swiss Impressions II

More photos from Geneva, Switzerland. This time from a European Chic reader, E. from Canada, who went to Switzerland at around the same time I did but with a much better camera.

Swiss Impressions I

Hey! I managed to squeeze in yet another trip before christmas, this time to Geneva, Switzerland for a few days. The formemost reason was - of course - to stock up on Swiss chocolate. Swiss chocolate is the best in the world in my humble opinion. Oh, and to eat delicious cheese fondue with my friends. (I spare you the photos because it is way too 'Asterix'.)

The flag of Geneva on the city walls (where the brave citizens defeated the French)

I do like to take photos of lions, don't I?

 There was music and celebration.

 The cathedral of Geneva

How interesting, a restaurant advertising boldly that you cannot drink alcohol here.
