German Impressions XI

If there is one thing Paris doesn't have and I miss - it is surely a harbour. So everytime I am close to a harbour I go picture mad and snap like a papparazzi as evident during my trip to Hamburg,

The last photo maybe of interest to european chic readers from the 'new world'. It is the Emigration Museum BallinStadt in Hamburg and I can highly recommend it. I learned a lot about migration here.

Any guesses what the architectural model (below) is? I took the photo in a museum and am quite puzzled.

German Impressions X

I was lucky to visit Berlin again just a few short weeks after my last trip. This time we looked for traces of the Berlin wall (above and below), treated ourselves to a fancy hotel, admired the buildings of the city, and enjoyed the variety of shops and all they have on offer.

German Impressions IX

Enfin, photos from my trip to Berlin, one of the most the dynamic capitals in Europe!

Above and the next two photos are from Rosenstrasse, the site of a major resistance of ordinary citizens against the jailing of their (Jewish) relatives in 1943. Afterwards, you see photos of Clärchens Ballhaus a eating and dancing venue which is over 100 years old and was a major hangout of German bohemians and artists such as Otto Dix and Alfred Döblin. The design hasn't changed at all and has a morbid charm. The last few photos are from Kreuzberg, a cool neighbourhood formerly located next to the wall.

Veranda vignette

Photo: Decor8

I am partial to this sweet little vignette from Germany. Imagine sitting here in the evening with a glass (or two)of wine and reading your favourite book! And I am spotting my favourite Morroccon sandals.

Sea Of Times

I haven't specifically blogged about art in interior but when I saw Berlin artist Angela Frübing's paintings I felt that I should showcase her wonderful work and versatility. The painting above is a landscape from the baltic sea in Germany. A great art work can totally transform a room. You should also check out her Chinese paintings on her website.
(Does the title of the post remind you of a song?)

Castle garden in Leipzig

Happy weekend to everybody! I am starting to smell spring here in my corner of the world so I specifically looked at gardens and fell in love with this beautiful door in the castle garden in Leipzig, a city in Eastern Germany. It looks like the entrance to the Secret Garden, doesn't it?

Modern garden hut

Photo: Marie Claire Maison

Remember this post? Well, browsing MC I came across this small cabane and liked how the design integrates in the forrest, and (supposedly) offers a gret view. Ahh, I want to lie on that day bed and read my books and read my favourite interior magazines

Bauhaus for dogs

Ever since my beloved dog died in late November there has been an empty spot (dog owners understand the pain of losing your dog) but now I am thinking of adopting a new dog. If I had a garden I would want to have this ultra modern Bauhaus dog house! Talk about light and airy and yet city chic.

Vintage vision in Berlin

Freunde von Freunde (FVF) has to be my favourite website, probably since they launched. It makes me want to move to Berlin just because the flats are so spacious over there. And now FVF has expanded - even to Paris. Yay! The featured flats are always so fresh, cool and, most importantly, unique.

In this flat I adore the fireplace and the pink walls. How gutsy! What do you like about this flat?
